An individual who laced sweets with sedative and gave them to youngsters at a summer camp in the region has admitted sexual offences against two boys aged nine and ten years old.
Jon Ruben was detained after eight children and an older person experienced illness at Stathern Lodge in the summer month.
The elderly man, from Ruddington in Nottinghamshire, pleaded guilty to a multiple criminal counts when he was present at the courthouse on the end of the week.
Yet, he denied one particular crime he was charged with, which was involving a young boy.
The accused was remanded in custody before a subsequent court date on 28 November.
'Treat game'
The prosecutor, handling the case, detailed Ruben's offending to the judicial body.
She said his targets were disadvantaged youngsters who were attending a youth camp which he ran.
The defendant conducted a "sweet game" with the youngsters, the prosecutor explained, in which he would access the children's bedrooms when they were getting ready for bed and ask them to eat sweets "rapidly".
She told the court the defendant had conducted this practice with the young males "for many years", and minors had previously become sick the subsequent day.
She said the man had been successful in rationalizing this for many years as the minors being "overexcited from fun", until his stepchild had suspicions in summer 2025.
The prosecutor added: "Recently" his stepchild had suspicions about what was going on, with valid cause.
"They resolved" to examine in the man's possessions."
The legal counsel stated objects including lubricant, ointment and injection devices were located, and his stepchild alerted the law enforcement about his suspicions.
She said the man proceeded to conduct the "treat game" with six boys that time - July 26th - and they were everyone unwell the subsequent day.
"The police had not responded by that time," she continued.
The oversight body, the Independent Office for Police Conduct, had stated that it was reviewing Leicestershire Police's handling of the situation.
The prosecutor explained the minors were struggling to walk due to being ill, so the family member contacted the police again.
She said the man then conducted the "candy game" in a area of five minors.
